John M. Murtagh represents individuals, small and mid-size businesses and national corporations in a diverse range of commercial, contractual and transactional matters as well as in disputes in the state and federal trial and appellate courts of New York.
A graduate of Fordham College (BA '82) and Fordham Law School (JD '86), John has nearly twenty-five years of experience representing and advising clients in and out of the courtroom. John began his career as a litigator at a major Manhattan law firm and, for the last twenty years, has maintained his own practice in Westchester County New York concentrating in business litigation, government relations and municipal law.
In addition to his law practice, John was from 2004 through 2011 a member of the City Council in Yonkers, New York State's fourth largest city. John served as the City Council Minority Leader during his last term and as a member of its Municipal Operations committee and co-Chair of its Real Estate and Economic Development Committee oversaw the approval of two of Westchester's largest recent developments, the 81 Acre Ridge Hill mixed use development and the SFC redevelopment of Yonkers' downtown and waterfront. The Ethics Code he authored as a first term councilman was called the "toughest" ethics code in New York State by the New York times.
In 2008 John was a candidate for the New York State Senate and, in 2011 was the Republican candidate for Mayor in Yonkers.
John is a Board Member of the Beczak Environmental Center and the Westchester-Putnam Boy Scouts of America.
Formerly an Adjunct Professor of Law and Public Policy at Fordham University, John's legal and political commentary has been featured by, among others, Sean Hannity, Greta Van Sustren, The New York Times, National Public Radio, WCBS-TV and the Journal News.
